1954 Saint Raphael Academy placed two backs and one line

man and Pawtucket West had three linemen selected to 1954 Times All-Blackstone Valley schoolboy football team. SRA’s Jackie Jordan (5-foot-10, 155-pounds) was a big ground gainer who was an elusive runner and very hard to tackle, fullback Vito Pontarelli, the only repeater from the 1953 team, was exceptionally fast for his 5-11, 212-pound frame, while tackle Ron Schoenfeld, (5-10, 189) developed into one of the best linemen the Saints have had in many years. The Rangers’ end Jackie Baird (6-0, 163) played both ways and showed promise of becoming a fine pass receiver next year while tackle Fred Grebien (5-11, 185) and guard Bob Walker (5-9, 165) combined to give West a solid defense on the right side with Walker lauded as one of the best blockers in Class B.

1964 Gerry Gosselin of Cumberland broke the Blackstone

Valley schoolboy record with 13 touchdown passes en route to dominating fellow quarterbacks by completing 69 aerials in 145 attempts for 861 yards. Tolman’s halfback Tony Moniz, the Valley’s point-scoring champion, also was the top pass-catcher with 18 receptions. Rounding out the top four receivers are Saint Raphael Academy’s end Bob Brooks with 16 receptions for 317 yards followed by the Clippers’ end Jack Copeland (15-273) and Billy Free (14-140).

1974 Saint Raphael Academy basketball coach Craig Callen

has 6-foot-1 Billy Lynch, one of the classiest all-around ball players in the state, leading the Saints. The remaining starting five has 6-footer Eddie Dalton at point guard, 6-3 Dave Courtois and 6-3 Bobby Moreau at the forward slots with 6-4 Art Gately at center. First off the bench will be 6-2 swingman Mike Ethier.
