Woonsocket Education Center will be the site of a free job fair on Wednesday, April 5 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 115 Main Street, Woonsocket. Local businesses, recruiters, and professional associations will be present to hire into a wide variety of positions for teens and adults. Companies such Electric Boat, Woonsocket School Department, Woonsocket YMCA, Allied Universal, and Beacon Charter School will be in attendance offering seasonal, part-time and full-time jobs and work opportunities. Parking is available in municipal parking lots and on the street.

The Museum of Work & Culture’s 24th annual Salute to Spring~Bonjour Printemps event will take place on Sunday, April 3, at 1:30pm, and will celebrate Franco-American culture. The program will feature live music from Québécois musician Eric Boodman who will perform a unique blend of fiddle music and foot percussion with multi-instrumentalist Jesse Ball, as well as a performance from Newport Ave, a local alternative rock band. Magic by George will perform his award-winning act of magic and family-friendly humor. Attendees can sample poutine throughout the afternoon with Friskie Fries, Red’s, and Methods of a Mad Woman food trucks on-site serving the French Canadian dish of french fries, gravy and cheese curds. Pastries prepared by Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery will also be served. Guests will also have the opportunity to catch a sneak preview of an exciting new Woonsocket-based novel by author Annick de Bellefeuille and learn the French Canadian tradition of palm braiding. The afternoon will culminate with the museum’s annual raffle as well as the announcement of the winner of the 7th annual Poutine Indulgence and Competition.

The BWOT will be hosting a PEEPS Diorama Contest in April. Community members of all ages, businesses, school classrooms, groups & organizations are all encouraged to enter. Dioramas are limited to shoe/ boot size boxes, no larger than 24 inches. The title of your diorama must be displayed on or in front of your creation. Registration is required by Monday, April 10th. Register early – space is limited. Entry categories are Adult /Individual, Child (up to age 13), Family/ Group/Team. Drop off Diorama on Saturday, April 15th from 10am – 12pm with your entry fee. Entry fee will be a donation of white socks of any size (male/ female/children) or personal care item such as shampoo & conditioner. All items will be shared with local area shelters in support of Domestic Violence Awareness, one of BWOT charities. Entries will be displayed in the Bellingham Library Community Room from 12pm Saturday, April 15th to 12pm Thursday, April 20th. Dioramas must be picked up on Thursday, April 20th after winners are announced. If your entry is not picked up by 3:00, they will be discarded. Voting will be conducted by the public from 12PM on April 15th to 12PM on April 20th. Ballots can be obtained from the front desk in the library. Winners to be announced & prizes awarded at 1pm on Thursday, April 20th. Prizes given to the winner of each category and a grand prize to the “Peeple’s” Choice entry. The Woonsocket Knights of Columbus invites you to attend a Palm Sunday Breakfast on April 2nd from 8AM to 11:30AM in the Good Shepherd School gym (St. Joseph’s Church) Mendon Road, Woonsocket. The Knights will be serving scrambled eggs, home fries, French toast, sausages, baked beans and coffee, tea and juice. Tickets for adults are $10.00, children 5 to 11, $7.00 and children under 5, free. Tickets may be purchased through any council Knight, St. Joseph’s parish office and also will be sold at the door. All proceeds from this breakfast will benefit Knights of Columbus charities. A few examples of our charities are: Special Olympics, Aid and support after pregnancy program(FIA-KOC), Faith Youth activities, and Faith in Action program.

The Museum of Work & Culture is proud to launch the 7th Annual Poutine Indulgence Competition. Throughout the month of March, Poutine Passport holders are able to sample poutine (a traditional Québécois dish of French fries smothered in gravy and cheese curds) from ten restaurants across Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. This year’s restaurants include new entrants the Black (Woonsocket), Black Sheep (Providence), and Savini’s Pomodoro (Woonsocket) as well as returning favorites Friskie Fries (Providence and Johnston), Adeline’s Speakeasy Kitchen Bar (Cumberland), Ciro’s Tavern (Woonsocket), KG Kitchen Bar (Providence), Poutine Peddlers (Taunton, MA) Red’s Kitchen (Seekonk, MA) and Ming’s Sando Bar (Pawtucket). Participants will have between March 20 and April 1 at midnight to vote for their favorite poutine. The winner will be announced at the Museum’s annual Salute to Spring event on Sunday, April 2. Poutine Passports are still available throughout the month for $15 each or two for $25 at rihs.org. For takeout orders, please be sure to say you are participating in the poutine indulgence at time of order. For dine-in, please present your passport to your server when ordering. You must order at least $10 in food or drink to use this promotion in person.

StoryWalk Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on the Town Common: The Bellingham Library and the Town Common Trustees invite the Bellingham Community to join us for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to formally open the Bellingham Town Common StoryWalk on Saturday, April 29th at 1 pm. Joining us for the Ribbon Cutting will be Bellingham author and illustrator Renee Kurilla, and her story, One Springy, Singy Day, will be on display through the month of May.
